Lego RoboWarriors
War 1 - 3/Apr/00
Three hours of Lego destruction were the first RoboWarrior war. The five robots involved were:
  • ExcorsBot (Philip Taylor) - by far the biggest and heaviest contestant (1.2kg, not including the 19 batteries), with a scoop capable of lifting other robots up, and a rear spinning thing capable of sending a Lego man flying a couple of metres into the air. Unfortunately, its main flaw was its complexity - it kept on falling apart!
  • DavBot (David Turner) - the simplest proper entry, with no moving weapons - just a ramp on the front for other robots to drive over.
  • Pyromaniac (James Harper) - The name probably comes from it looking a bit like a fire engine. It had a spinning thing like ExcorsBot, but a lot lighter and less damaging.
  • Sitting Duck (Philip Taylor again) - not a serious entry. Used a wind-up motor for power, and couldn't be controlled at all.
  • Quackers (David Turner again) - used one motor and could only drive backwards and forwards (well, that's better than Sitting Duck!) but was probably the fastest robot. It could be aimed towards the enemy by repeatedly ramming into a wall, causing it to turn slighty.

One of Pyromaniac's batteries was not working, and no spares were available, so a paper clip was inserted in place of the battery. This meant it was running at two-thirds its maximum speed, but at least it could move!

ExcorsBot lifts Sitting Duck out of the arena. The same almost happened to Quackers, but one of Sitting Duck's wheels broke (again).

    ...and after battle.
